MonoCollé Layered Works on Paper Each piece is a unique one-of-a-kind layered work of art on paper. Each piece is a combination of collograph, collage and chine-collé, run through the etching press to emboss and adhere decorative and handmade papers to BFK Rives printmaking paper using archival glue. After the prints dry, other textured papers and dried and pressed botanicals are collaged to the piece . Some of the botanicals are produced for inclusion in handmade papers and others I hand pick, dry and press. It’s the designer in me that makes me want to plan the pieces ahead of time but the art takes on a life of it’s own and I let the intuitve process take over once I’m actually at the press. Not having a press of my own , I use the printmaking facilities at the Woodstock School of Art, the Barrett Art Center in Poughkeepsie and at various workshops. One-of-a-kind art cards are created in my studio with a wooden book press. emma crawford 2007 |
